Daytime temperatures on July 15 climbed to around 35 degrees Celsius across most of the country on Chobok, the first day of Sambok, or the three hottest days of summer according to the lunisolar calendar. Thus the Seoul Metropolitan Government has compiled a list of its top 10 water leisure spots to help residents and visitors stay cool. The capital's 212 water-themed facilities span 142 splash pads and 70 outdoor water playgrounds.

Splash pads where children's laughter echoes

Children running and playing at splash pads and getting drenched in water are a familiar summer site in Korea. Blending naturally at spacious parks, such facilities are also popular for family outings in the season.

Notable splash pads include those at Seoul Forest in Seongdong-gu District, the venue of the Seoul International Garden Show, which has attracted over six million visitors; Seoul Plaza in Jung-gu District, a green oasis in the heart of the city; World Cup Park in Mapo-gu District, the premier ecological space in the city's southwest side; and Buramsan Healing Town in Nowon-gu District, which features a family-friendly butterfly garden that promotes ecology learning.

Water playgrounds with many facilities and amenities

The water playground at Hyeonchung Neighborhood Park in Dongjak-gu District, allows children and adults to have fun while cooling off.

For a truly wet experience, an outdoor water playground is the perfect choice. The city recommends Seoul Botanic Park in Gangseo-gu District, the capital's first urban botanical garden; Odong Neighborhood Park in Gangbuk-gu District, where cultural and natural attractions converge; and Hyeonchung Neighborhood Park in Dongjak-gu District, a recreational space popular among residents.

Mixed-use water play surrounded by nature

Jungnang Camping Forest in Jungnang-gu District offers an experience in nature in the capital.

Mixed-use water play areas also combine splash pads and water playgrounds to offer a range of wet activities.

The most popular of these destinations are Jungnang Camping Forest in Jungnang-gu District, which offers an experience in nature within the city; Boramae Park in Dongjak-gu District, which displays a retired aircraft; and Dream Forest in Gangbuk-gu District, offering a mirror pond and many water play facilities.

Most of these venues are open through next month, though opening dates and operating hours vary by location. Check the city government's official website or Smart Seoul Map (https://map.seoul.go.kr/smgis2/short/6PqBP) before visiting.
