An uber-popular summer event has returned to a beach complete with scenic views of the Yellow Sea.

Marking its 29th year, the Boryeong Mud Festival in Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do Province, runs through Aug. 9 around Daecheon Beach and Mud Expo Square. Programs featuring mud activities, performing arts and cultural events will heat up the festive midsummer mood.

This year's edition features a greatly expanded lineup of interactive programs such as Mud Experience Zone and the party "Mud Mob Scene." The interactive zone at Mud Expo Plaza is divided into sections for the public, families and a children's water park, ensuring fun for people of all ages.

The inaugural Mud Cask Zone has 20 self-massage mud tubs installed within Mud Plaza. A newly built infinity pool offers the mud experience with a great view of the sea.

The party continues at night. A series of outdoor performances titled "Mud on the Beach" is held daily at 8 p.m. at Mud Plaza on Daecheon Beach, while mud busking and an open stage are at the outdoor stage of Sunset Plaza from Friday through Sunday.

A slew of performances is also scheduled through the following events: the K-Hip-Hop Festival Part 1 on July 31 and Part 2 on Aug. 1; Mud Song Festival on Aug. 2; Mud Rock Festa on Aug. 7; and Big Mud Show Parts 1 and 2 on Aug. 8.

The TV Chosun Super Concert and a drone light show on Aug. 9 promise a spectacular close to the festival on its final day.
