Brazil has embraced Hallyu not just through music or dramas but also literature. In addition to the books of Korean authors displayed at bookstores in Brazil, several Brazilian writers have produced works set in Korea.
The following are five Brazilian novels set in Korea.
My Korean Boss
Erik Lee Young is a director at New York's largest construction company and intent on becoming CEO before turning 45. As a demanding professional with little patience, he hires only the best specialists for his team and pressures everyone to deliver maximum performance. Erik and his youngest contractor have many things in common. What can happen between a man who pretends to forget and a woman who doesn't accept "no" as an answer?
This novel promises cliche, inspiration from dramas, a strong protagonist, an irresistible boss and captivating characters.
Jump, Kim Joo So
This story was inspired by Korean dramas. Marina and So are connected by pain but live in completely distant worlds. Marina lives in Curitiba, tormented by the aggression of her ex-boyfriend, and So lives in Seoul, living with guilt from which she cannot escape. In a single moment, the two cross paths and take control of their lives.
The Korean Prince
Mel lived like a princess until her father's death. Because of grief and her ambitious stepmother, she flees to Korea, the country where her favorite programs are set, but fails to find the peace she so desires. She meets a man torn between arrogance and love. Lee Kang-dae is rich, handsome and coveted, and feels no need to respect those who ignore his rules. His world is turned upside down, however, after facing a Western woman called Morena.
A Drama to Call Mine
Marina Pena is a communications adviser who is a strong and independent woman and above all, a boxer. Not even her new mission can knock her out: advising Joaquim Matos aka Yoo Hwa-in, a Korean photographer. In a story full of romance, exciting twists and turns, and scenes characteristic of East Asian novels, a bond forms between the two, who must deal not only with cultural differences but also a threat from his past in Korea.
Imprudent Desire
This adult novel revolves around Emily, a 23-year-old woman who goes to work for a famous fashion designer in Korea. Emily is also the best friend of the famous model Audrie Hills, who is dating Noah, who is of Korean ancestry and vocalist of the popular band Excellent Souls.
Despite the luxury and glamour of the fashion world, Emily realizes that her friend is not exactly whom she thought she was. The arrogant and apathetic Noah is also totally different when off stage. Emily struggles to control her feelings after discovering that a seemingly perfect relationship is anything but, her image of her friend distorted and an unexpected crush on Noah.
