The fifth annual Bucharest Short Film Festival ran from Sept. 17-23 at Godot Theater and Eforie Cinematheque in the Romanian capital. The event featured short films that received awards at major festivals worldwide such as the Academy Awards, Cannes and Sundance.
Over 1,200 works were shown from 22 countries like Brazil, Canada, Korea and the U.S.
A surprise of the festival was the screening on Sept. 21 of the 2019 Korean animated work "Movements" by director Jeong Dahee at Eforie. Though I couldn't attend, the audience seemed to enjoy the movie.
The work's synopsis written by Jeong said, "In the space of 10 minutes, the African baobab tree grows 0.008 mm, the fastest dog in the world, the greyhound, can run 12 km, and the Earth travels 18,000 km around the Sun. 'Movements' is a 10-minute animated film which I drew at a rate of two seconds of animation per day. We are all walking, seeing, working, running and stopping together."
An indie animation director and member of the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who lives in Seoul, Jeong completed a master's in animation at ENSAD in Paris. She has directed several films including "Man on the Chair," which won the top award Cristal for a short film at the 2014 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.
“Movements” was also screened in 2019 at the Directors' Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival.
