Employees on the afternoon of Jan. 17 examine KRW 50,000 notes at the Bank of Korea's branch office in Gyeonggi-do Province, an office that supervises 17 cities in the province's southern region, in the Jangan-gu District of Suwon, Gyeonggi-do. Every year before Seollal (Lunar New Year), the central bank releases holiday funds to secure market liquidity for cash to be used as gift money during the holiday and to prepare for an increased demand for bank notes.
