The country has the fastest average download speed for mobile communications and that for 5G in the Asia-Pacific region.

Opensignal, a London-based mobile analytics company, on Feb. 5 said Korea's average mobile communications download speed from Oct. 1 to Dec. 29 last year was 140.2 Mbps, the fastest among 25 nations in the region.

This was 14.8 Mbps faster from two years ago and almost double the rate of Asia-Pacific runner-up Singapore (71.1). Third was Australia (58.5), followed by Taiwan (55.7), India (51.5) and China (50.5).

Korea also had the region's fastest average download speed for 5G with 436.7 Mbps.

Second was Malaysia (337.7 Mbps), followed by Singapore (292.9) and India (280.7)


The fastest in Europe was Denmark (301.8 Mbps), trailed by Bulgaria (288.9) and Croatia (274.3).

India was No. 1 in the region in 5G availability, or the percentage of time spent connected to 5G mobile telecommunications, with 44.3%. Korea was second (38.3%), followed by Singapore (33.3%), Thailand (24.8%) and Malaysia (23.6%).
