Kim Minji An independent survey commissioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has shown that 65 percent of people worldwide consider the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics a success.
The IOC on March 26 released the results of a survey on PyeongChang 2018 and its value on its official website. The poll was conducted by Publicis Sport & Entertainment in March last year.
A combined 36,000 people in 16 countries and 2,089 Koreans participated in the survey, with 65 percent of non-Koreans and 75 percent of Koreans calling the PyeongChang event a success.
Koreans gave the Olympics an "enjoyment" score of nine out of 10 points, with 77 percent saying the host venues in Gangwon-do Province such as the counties of Pyeongchang-gun and Jeongseon-gun and the city of Gangneung will see many benefits from the tournament.
In addition, PyeongChang 2018 was the most digitally viewed Winter Olympics in the event's history. Viewing through digital platforms reached 270 million hours, up 113 percent from that for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
"The Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 were a success in so many respects. This latest research clearly demonstrates the strength of not only the Olympic Games, but also Olympic values," said IOC President Thomas Bach.
