An Se Young, the world's top female badminton player, has won her second world singles title in three tournaments.

The shuttlecock sensation on Aug. 23 clinched the gold medal after defeating world No. 2 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in straight sets at this year's Badminton World Federation World Championships held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, India.

An won her second world title in three championships following her 2023 victory in Copenhagen.

She displayed a flawless performance in the tournament by not losing a single game from the round of 64 to the final.

In the first game, she and Yamaguchi were locked in a neck-and-neck contest with the score tied multiple times. An then scored four straight points to take the opening game, 21-17, and overcame Yamaguchi's early lead in the second by going ahead 7-6 en route to a 21-14 victory.

The Korean also extended her winning streak against Yamaguchi to six matches and widened her lead in their head-to-head record to 20-15.

In women's doubles the same day, the world No. 3 pair of Lee So-hee and Baek Ha-na took the title for Korea's first gold in the event in 31 years, while the world's top-ranked men's team of Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae won the bronze.
