Korea has rolled up its sleeves to more-warmly welcome visitors and to help them feel at home during their stay.
The National Hospitality Campaign for Visiting Foreigners was launched on January 29, starting with a street campaign in Myeongdong, one of the most popular destinations in Seoul, under the slogan “Korea, Lead the Way and Show Hospitality.”

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo Jinryong participated in the street campaign along with approximately 150 volunteers and tourism police who are together in charge of providing better service to visitors.
Walking around Seoul’s No. 1 shopping district, the participants gave away souvenirs and fortune cookies every time they encountered a tourist.
They also attached “Hospitality Stickers” inside restaurants and shops that are frequented by many tourists.
The campaign is under way at international airports as well. The Incheon and Gimpo International Airports are both hosting some special events that help tourists feel more welcome. Visitors entering the country are given welcoming souvenirs and guide books to help them conveniently travel across the nation. Also, if they collect all the stamps in a coupon-stamp book, they will receive a special gift when they leave.

The Tourist Service Center, a five-ton truck converted into a service center for tourists, will operate until February 9 at major department stores in central Seoul. Designed to provide better convenience for non-Korean speaking shoppers, the center offers interpreting services and brochures that include information on shopping options.
Dongdaemun, another major shopping district, also plays host to an event that allows visitors to learn hands on how to apply K-pop style makeup.
“This campaign is an opportunity to promote Korean hospitality,” said an official from the culture ministry. “This will help deliver a friendly and warm-hearted image of Koreans.”
