Seoul recently played host to a conference that aimed at boosting diplomatic and cooperative ties between Korea and Belarus.
At the eighth Korea-Belarus Policy Conference on February 2, representatives from both countries spoke about the noticeable progress in terms of bilateral relations that has been made across many areas. They pointed out the opening of a KOTRA office in Minsk, Belarus, in March last year, and also Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Choi Yanghee’s visit to the country last September.
Among those in attendance were Deputy Minister for Protocol Affairs Lee Kyung-soo from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov.
Both sides took advantage of the meeting to discuss possible ways to expand cooperation in the science and IT sectors. In addition, they agreed to ramp up efforts to sign MOUs to cooperate on customs and education.

The two sides also adopted a comprehensive roadmap for future cooperation that involves the following: enhance cooperation and bilateral exchanges in the international arena, for example, at the United Nations; boost economic cooperation at such events as business forums, exhibitions and fairs; launch a joint committee on science and technology; and, lastly, enhance bilateral exchanges between researchers and scientists, as well as cooperate on developing online government services. They then vowed to carry out each step of the action plan in a cooperative manner.
Prior to the Korea-Belarus meeting, there was another meeting aimed at boosting cooperation with Equatorial Guinea.
The first Korea-Equatorial Guinea Policy Conference takes place in Seoul on January 30.

At the talks, representatives from Korea and Equatorial Guinea spoke about a wide range of issues, such as ways to increase high-level exchanges and economic cooperation, ways to work together on the international stage, ways to cooperate on development and on the regional situation that both countries face.
Attending the meeting were Director General Kwon Hee-seog of the MOFA's African and Middle Eastern Affairs Bureau and Secretary-General Carmelo Micha Nguema Misi of Equatorial Guinea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
In particular, the two sides discussed ways to make it easier for Korean businesses to obtain visas to Equatorial Guinea. The Korean side asked for the Equatorial Guinea government’s support for and cooperation on the Korean government’s "trustpolitik" and its unification policies, too. Finally, they also agreed to work together to establish peace and stability across the African continent.
