President Moon Jae-in invited FIFA head Gianni Infantino, who was in Korea for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup Final, to Cheong Wa Dae for a talk on June 12.

“Football is the most popular sport in Korea,” said President Moon. “Thanks to people’s passion for soccer, Korea has co-hosted a FIFA World Cup with Japan and has now hosted the U-20 World Cup,” he said. “Personally, I believe that football is the most equal and democratic sport.”

“You can play football anywhere, as long as there's a ball,” said the president. “It's a sport where even poverty-stricken countries can enjoy success against stronger countries.”

“I thank all Korean citizens for doing an excellent job hosting the U-20 World Cup,” said the FIFA head.

“Football is an amazing sport and Korea is an amazing nation,” Infantino said. “The message sent to the world through football is strong and important. If FIFA can help with any business or project, we would be happy to participate.”
