Colombian President Ivan Duque Marquez Aug. 24-26 will make a state visit to Korea at the invitation of President Moon Jae-in.

Cheong Wa Dae Spokesperson Park Kyung-mee on Aug. 19 announced the itinerary of the Colombian president's visit.

President Duque's trip will mark the 10th anniversary of the strategic cooperation partnership between both countries and the 70th anniversary of Colombia's participation in the Korean War.

On the morning of Aug. 25, President Moon will host a summit with the Colombian leader at Cheong Wa Dae on development of bilateral relations, substantial cooperation in the post-COVID-19 era, and collaboration in global and regional issues.

This is President Moon's first face-to-face summit with a Latin American leader since the outbreak of COVID-19.

Both presidents will discuss economic recovery in the post-pandemic era by connecting the economic reform strategies of the two countries: the Korean New Deal and ''Commitment for the Future of Colombia.''

Their talks will also cover boosting cooperation in areas such as sharing information on the prevention of and responses to contagious diseases, strengthening cooperation in health care and medicine, establishing peace, expanding development cooperation projects to support Colombia's economic and social stability, and boosting cultural and artistic exchanges next year, which will mark the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations.

The only Latin American country to send troops to the Korean War, Colombia is one of Korea's main economic and trading partners in Central and South America. Two-way trade and investment have expanded since a bilateral free trade agreement took effect in 2016.

Spokesperson Park told a briefing, ''Both leaders will adopt a joint statement on the results of their summit and lay a strong foundation for bolstering future-oriented and strategic cooperation between Korea and Colombia, two strategic partners from Asia and Latin America.''
