The Office of the President on June 22 held an emergency review meeting on national security and the economic situation chaired by National Security Office Director Wi Sung-lac to assess the potential impact on Korea by U.S. airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung told a briefing that day, "In accurately assessing the situation, the meeting focused on discussing the impact of U.S. airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities following the Israel-Iran conflict on our security and economy."
At the meeting, Director Wi said, "Above all, the important thing is to protect the lives and safety of our people and ensure their ability to lead stable daily lives."
He also urged close communication and cooperation among relevant ministries to ease the impact of recent developments in the Middle East on the security and economic situations of the Korean Peninsula.
The presidential office also pledged talks more while closely monitoring developments related to this incident based on how the situation unfolds.
