In celebration of the 2022 Seollal (Korean Lunar New Year), the Korean Cultural Centre hosted an Online Hanji Goebul Wind Chime Making class on Seollal February 1.
Goebul is a triangular-shaped fruit that lives on an old lotus root. The three-pointed ears of Goebul have the meaning of repelling demons. Traditionally in Seollal, Korean ladies made Goebul accessories for their families to bring them blessings while repressing evil spirits throughout the year.
The KCC wished to send the participants and their families and Canadians big blessings for the New Year by making Goebul wind chime and sharing the wishes.
The workshop was led by Eunjung Cho. Cho studied history, Korean art history, education and Museum Studies in Korea and Canada. She has been teaching Korean culture, history and the Korean language at various educational and cultural institutions in Korea and overseas for over 20 years. Cho specializes in teaching Korean traditional arts and culture through her craft classes. She often collaborates with Korean museums and constantly does training, perfecting, and expanding her traditional craft techniques. Cho is actively hosting her workshops, classes, and camps through the Korean Cultural Centre, Korean community organizations, and other schools in Ottawa.
Fifty-three people participated in this online class and made their Goebul wind chime.

The class was also mentioned through the Arirang TV News and introduced to people worldwide.
