<Taekwondo Day> Culture Event in Edegem City
The 1st cultural event <Taekwondo Day> in Edegem will take place on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at the Willecom Sports Center and in the surroundings of the city of Edegem. During the day, the “Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Poomsae Competition” will be held at the Sports Center in cooperation with the Belgian Taekwondo Association (Taekwondo Vlaanderen). In the outdoor area of the sports center, there will be more than 15 stalls where you can discover and experience the variety of Korean culture such as calligraphy and Korean paper art workshop, food, Hanbok(traditional costume), taekwondo kicking game and K-pop workshop as well. Anyone interested in discovering Korean culture and taekwondo is welcome and all workshops are free. You can also buy Korean foods and products on site.
Korea Cultural Center and the Edegem city will co-host a cultural event named as "Taekwondo Day in Edegem" on May 8, 2022 all day long. This event is a part of the 'Memorandum of Understanding(MOU)' signed on March 22 between the Korean Embassy and the city of Edegem.
Inside the Willecom Sports Center, “the Korean Ambassador's Cup Taekwondo Poomsae competition” will take place. Anyone who is a taekwondo practitioner living in Belgium can join to participate in this competition.
Outside the Sports Center, there will be a Korean Culture Zone consisting of more than 15 stalls where you can discover and experience various aspects of Korean culture such as food, k-pop, traditional arts, taekwondo, traditional alcohol, etc. You can participate in workshops to experience Korean calligraphy or Korean paper art. You can also try the taekwondo kicking game. A children zone will be waiting for young visitors and you can enjoy Korean food in Korean restaurant stalls.
This culture event runs from 11 AM to 8 PM and access is free for everybody. The official opening ceremony will take place in the Willecom Sport Hall at noon (12h00). It includes a K-pop performance and Taekwondo Demonstration Performance as well.
**On March 22, 2022, the Korean Cultural Center of the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union signed a memorandum of understanding with the city of Edegem located in the Flemish region to declare May 8 as "Taekwondo Day". And to celebrate this agreement, two entities cooperate to organize the cultural event <Taekwondo Day> in Edegem.
