Inauguration of the exhibition "Hanji: the Paper of Life"
Korea Week Bari 2022
On Thursday 26 May at 19.00 the Korean Cultural Institute as part of Korea Week Bari 2022, inaugurated the exhibition "Hanji: the Paper of Life".
At the inauguration of the exhibition held at the Swabian Castle of Bari where about 400 people gathered, in addition to the Director Chun Ye Jin of the Korean Cultural Institute, the Director of DRMP Luca Mercuri, the Ambassador of Puglia in the World Nancy were present dell'Olio, the Director of the Swabian Castle of Bari Alessandra Mongelli, the Councilor of Culture of the Municipality of Bari Ines Pierucci, the Regional Councilor for Cultural Policies Grazia di Bari and the Director General of the Tourism Department of the Puglia Region Aldo Patruno, who have brought all their greetings.
To comply with the safety regulations on the covid of the Swabian Castle in Bari, various groups of 50 people each have been divided to be able to visit the exhibition at the inauguration.
The effect of Korea Week Bari with various events in the previous days dedicated to all age groups, but above all for the youngest, has also brought benefits to the Swabian Castle, much visited in general but not very frequented by very young age groups.
The exhibition presented the traditional Korean Hanji paper not only on its more traditional aspect, but also its most varied uses in the daily life of Koreans.
In addition to the types of Hanji paper from the various Korean regions produced by the Korean Paper Masters, it was also possible to see everyday objects such as lamps, sunglasses, masks, diaries, plates, aroma diffusers, fans, etc.
In addition, two video clips on the history and future of Hanji were installed, explained directly by the specialists in the sector.
During her greeting, the Director Chun thanked the DRMP and the Swabian Castle for giving the opportunity to open the exhibition in a place of admirable historical value such as the Swabian Castle and also wanted to emphasize that Hanji is not only wonderful and delicate, but it is also a paper of great quality and durability, so much so that it is also called the Thousand Years Paper, used in the field of art but also in the restoration of the Italian paper cultural heritage.
Director Luca Mercuri returned the thanks also saying that he had seen with his own eyes the influence of Korean Culture also through the results of Korea Week. Furthermore, he wished that relations between Korea and Italy could intensify and continue for another thousand years like the Hanji.
Also the Director of the Swabian Castle Alessandra Mongelli joined in the thanks adding that she was very happy that the cultural exchange with Korea has also brought the very young people of Bari closer to the Swabian Castle.
The exhibition will run at the Castello Svevo in Bari until July 25 and the Korean Cultural Institute hopes that all visitors to the Swabian Castle can enjoy traditional Korean art and Hanji.
