The Korean Cultural Center in Brazil holds the final of the K-Pop Festival Contest in August in Bom Retiro.
As one of the most highly anticipated events annually for K-Pop cover performers, the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil will hold the in-person final of the 11th edition of the K-Pop Festival Contest in August in the Bom Retiro neighborhood of So Paulo. The contest will be part of the Korean Culture Festival program, which will take place on August 19th and 20th.
The first stage of the contest consisted of an online selection process where around 100 cover performers from all over Brazil submitted videos that were evaluated by experienced dance judges. In total, 10 candidates were chosen, including 5 groups, 4 soloists, and 1 duo. The cover performers come from So Paulo, Ceará, Paraná, and Esprito Santo, and they will compete in person for cash prizes; the winner will receive R$3000, while the second and third places will receive R$1500 and R$800, respectively.
The in-person final will take place on the first day of the festival, which is August 19th (Saturday) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Praça Coronel Fernandes Prestes, located near Tiradentes subway station in Bom Retiro. The contest will be opened by last year's winning team, PHK Dance Company, and there will also be a performance by KC Girls, the official cover group of the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil, who are preparing a very special medley to celebrate the tenth debut anniversary of BTS, one of the most famous K-Pop groups today.
In addition to the K-Pop Festival, the Korean Culture Festival will feature various other cultural programs, such as stalls offering traditional Korean food, performances by traditional dance artists, traditional instruments, and singing, as well as a special demonstration by the KCC Taekwondo Team, the official Taekwondo demonstration team of the Korean Cultural Center.
The Korean Cultural Center in Brazil has been continuously working towards the promotion of Korean culture in Brazil through the courses, workshops, and free events offered by the institution. The main objective of the K-Pop Festival is to provide a space for Brazilian cover performers to showcase their dance skills and their love for K-Pop at one of the biggest Korean cultural events in Brazil. Through this edition of the contest, it is hoped that the cover performers and the audience can feel closer to Korean culture and that their interest in and love for South Korean pop and Korean culture will continue to grow.
