The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles hosted an event at the "LA Times Festival of Books," held on April 20th and 21st at the USC campus, to introduce Korean literature and culture to local Americans.
More than 1,000 local Americans visited the booth of the LA Korean Cultural Center, enjoying Korean books and culture. English-translated Korean literature works, including books on various topics such as Korean language, culture, and history, as well as winners of international literature awards such as the Booker Prize, International Dublin Literary Award, and PEN America Literary Award, were also presented.
Additionally, in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization and the Sejong Institute, various activities such as Trying on Hanbok(Korean traditional clothing), Korean calligraphy experience, as well as providing Korean tourism souvenirs and introduction brochures, were offered to booth visitors.
On April 20th, at the Taper Hall, author Bora Chung participated in a panel discussion on the SF fiction genre titled "Science Fiction: Strange & Sublime Stories," engaging in discussions with readers and held a book signing event. Chung gained worldwide attention by being shortlisted for the Booker International Prize in 2022 with her book "Cursed Bunny" and was also selected as a finalist in the translation literature category of the National Book Awards in 2023. During this event, her latest work, "Your Utopia," newly published in the United States this year, was also introduced.
KCCLA is planning various programs to showcase excellent literature works and authors to widely promote the charm of Korean literature in American society.
