The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Director Sangwon Jung), in collaboration with the Seoul Arts Center (SAC), successfully hosted a screening of Ballet Simcheong on October 10 at the Ari Hall on the Cultural Center's 3rd floor.
As the final installment of the Ballet Opera Series, the event drew a full house of attendees, who enjoyed the refined artistry of K-Ballet. Gunnar Johnson, one of the attendees, remarked, “It was refreshing to see ballerinas in hanbok. The beautiful colors throughout the performance were particularly striking.” Similarly, Jasmine Ispirian commented, “Simcheong, which portrays filial love rather than romantic love between a man and a woman, offered a unique perspective compared to the storylines of Western ballets.”
The audience laughed and wept with the characters, gaining an appreciation for Korea's philosophy of hyo (filial piety). The event was especially noteworthy for the presence of family audiences, including children, highlighting the growing interest in K-Ballet.
