The Korean Culture Centre and its Nigerian counterpart came together to create an atmosphere of camaraderie and celebration.
The evening unfolded as a vibrant cocktail of cultural exchange, filled with lively games and opportunities for networking.
The gathering not only promoted cultural awareness but also strengthened ties between the two communities, leaving everyone with cherished memories and newfound friendships.
The event which marked the Korean Lunar and New Year, Seollal had Attendees who were treated to a showcase of traditional Korean music, delicious cuisines, Indigenous games that include, Gonggi Nori, Jegi Chagi, Ddakji Chigi and interactive activities that accentuated the unique customs and practices of Korea that has close similarities with Nigeria.
The culture and events officer, Yunijin Lee, expressed her enthusiasm for the forthcoming Seolnal celebration, emphasizing its intention to foster connections among families and friends as they come together to mark the Lunar New Year.
In her remarks, she highlighted that the traditional cuisine offered at the event not only enhances the appeal of Korean culture but also serves to cultivate a sense of togetherness through shared meals.
“This holiday is especially cherished for family reunions and symbolizes the spirit of the New Year. We have prepared a selection of traditional Korean dishes alongside snacks that are popular among Nigerian communities,” she said.
The Cultural Events and Communications Officer, Ms Jennifer Ezeonyeasi, added that to further elevate the event’s excitement, they incorporated three traditional Korean games—Ddakji Chigi, Gonggi Nori, and Jegi Chagi—popularized in the latest instalment of the hit series, “Squid Game 2.”
She remarked on the nostalgic aspect of these games, noting that they resonate deeply with many attendees due to their similarities with childhood games played across Nigeria.
During the event, one of the participants, Dickson Tayo, praised the initiative, acknowledging the importance of shared cultural experiences.
He emphasized the unique opportunity that the event brings for individuals from different backgrounds to come together and appreciate their diverse traditions while creating lasting memories
