Events at KCCs abroad

South Korea has enhanced its cultural relationship with Nigeria by presenting the "Hanbok Reborn as Art" exhibition at the Nike Art Gallery in Abuja. This exhibition features works from 11 contemporary Korean artists who have reinterpreted the traditional Korean attire, Hanbok, through various modern artistic techniques, including painting, sculpture, installation, and video art.

The event was inaugurated by the South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Kim Pankyu, who emphasized that the Hanbok embodies Korea's history, beliefs, and identity, and remains relevant in the modern world. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the Nike Art Gallery and its founder, Chief Nike Okundaye, acknowledging her as a steadfast supporter of Korean culture.

Chief Okundaye shared her experiences from a visit to South Korea, highlighting the pervasive presence of art in Korean life, from fashion to cuisine. She encouraged Nigerian artists and the public to explore Korean creativity and culture through the exhibition.

The exhibition showcases the works of artists such as Kwon Ki Soo, Kim Si Hyun, Nam Kyung Min, Yang Dae Won, Lee Don Ah, Lee Bong Yi, Lee Soo In, Lee Joong Keun, Lee Hoo Chang, Jung Myoung Jo, and Jung Hai Yun. Each artist offers a unique interpretation of the Hanbok, utilizing its patterns, textures, and symbolism to explore contemporary Korean identity. Notably, Lee Bong Yi, a renowned Hanbok artisan, presented hand-stitched garments that highlight traditional skills passed down through generations.

According to the curators, the exhibition reflects Korea's commitment to sharing its cultural heritage globally while promoting mutual understanding with countries like Nigeria.
