The Korean Cultural Centre is pleased to present the fifth team of our <VKC Performing Arts Series>, Coreyah.
Coreyah is a sextet group that melds classic & traditional instruments and vocalization with entirely modern ones. Their new breed of music breaks the barrier between the traditional and the contemporary. Coreyah’s unique polystylistic vision of Korean traditional music combines various world music heritages, such as Anglo-American rock, Balkan gypsy and variety of musical genres from South America and Africa.
This video will be composed of 3 songs chosen from highlights of their past performances: ‘How Far You’ve Come’, ‘Escape’, and ‘Good Dreams’. We hope you enjoy the exciting performance of Coreyah!

How Far You’ve Come
This song describes a life of a musician as he plays over mountains and seas. The melodies and lyrics are from old Korean folk songs. In the second half of the song, call-and-answer type of singing is highlighted giving the song more fun and playfulness.
Escape
This song encompasses the emotion of wanting to run away and escape from the hard life. The rhythms represent anger and deprivation as well as contrasting senses of breakthrough and liberation that we all experience throughout our lives.
Good Dreams
This song illustrates a peacefully sleeping child and a night of youth with a wide awake eye. The two seems to contrast but in the end, both grow and mature through dreamy nights. This song wishes everyone a good night sleep whichever stage they are in life and is played with a rhythm called ‘Tur-bu-lim’.
