2020 KOREA WEEK: THE KOREAN EMBASSY AND KOREAN CULTURAL CENTRE LAUNCH <2020 KOREA WEEK> IN CELEBRATION OF CHUSEOK, THE KOREAN THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY, AS WELL AS THE NATIONAL FOUNDATION DAY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA
On the occasion of the biggest traditional holiday in Korea, Chuseok, and the National Foundation Day of Korea, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Centre are pleased to announce "2020 Korea Week," an annual festival offering a wide range of Korean cultural contents for the general public to enjoy, from K-Pop to K-food, and much more.
This year, the Korea Week will take place from September 30 to October 10, and the majority of its programming will take place online, due to current social distancing measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The 2020 Korea Week will feature the 3rd Ottawa Korean Film Festival(OKFF)>, showcasing a variety of Korean films to be streamed online. *Update(September 18): The offline screenings have been cancelled due to the current state of COVID-19.
The Korea Week will also include opportunities for the general public to enjoy a variety of performing arts events such as the annual <K-Pop Cover Dance Festival>, a musical show <Let’s Dance Crazy!!> by group SACHOOM2, and dance performance <No One There> by the Seoul Metropolitan Dance Theatre, which will all be screened online through KCC social media channels.
And Korea Week won’t be complete without an event on Korean food! This year, audiences are invited to online K-Food workshops <All About Kimchi> and the <Korean Tea Series> promising to stir your appetites for Korean food and food culture through the screen.
Furthermore, the Korean Cultural Centre will host an offline exhibition on the Korean traditional attire, Hanbok titled <HANBOK, Poetics of Line, Space, and the Passage of Life> at its gallery, and will be providing the exhibition experience virtually for those who prefer to see in online.
On October 9, to commemorate Hangul (Korean Alphabet) Day, the Korean Cultural Centre will host a couple of Korean language related events: <Click to Hangul> will be an Instagram quiz event, and <Spotted: Hangul> will be a photo competition on social media to submit the best photo that includes references to the Korean language.
Finally, the Korea Week will host the first-ever online <Ambassador’s Cup Poomsae Championship>. Considering the current situation with regards to COVID-19, the entire competition stages will be conducted through online platform.
