The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) began to cooperate with the UAE on improving the environment of the patent information system.

KIPO announced on March 2 that it held a launch ceremony for a new patent information system in the UAE on Feb. 28. Since 2016, it has been supporting the UAE on the establishment of a patent information system based on Korea’s e-government technical prowess and knowhow.

Thanks to the new system, UAE citizens can now search for patent application information in both an online and mobile environment. They can make patent applications online and pay the fee 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Patent applicants can also check the administrative procedures online, which reduces screening time, and manage their application history in a more effective manner.

KIPO Commissioner Sung Yunmo said, “Korea will actively support the development of the UAE’s intellectual property system.”

“We will work hard together so that bilateral cooperation can develop into knowledge and technological cooperation, which suits the fourth industrial revolution,” he added.
