The city of Busan will be bewitched again and again on the upcoming hot summer nights.
The Busan International Magic Festival (BIMF) will start with an opening ceremony at Haeundae Beach on Aug. 6 and continue until Aug. 9. Over one hundred magicians will lead spectators into a world of mysterious magic throughout the festival's 10th running.

Famous magicians who won awards at the FISM World Championships of Magic will appear during the festival's Night Magic Gala Show, including Pierric from France, the winner of a grand prize in close-up magic at the championships earlier this year, and Hector Mancah from Spain, the winner of a grand prize in stage magic the same year. Kenji Minemura, a Japanese who topped the manipulation magic list in 2000 and 2003, Norbert Ferre, a Frenchman who won a grand prize in 2003, and Robert Jagerhorn, a Finnish magician who was placed third in parlor magic in 2003, will also appear at the festival.

A wide range of magicians from around the world will appear in the Night Magic Gala Show, one of the biggest highlights at the Busan International Magic Festival.
The opening ceremony at Haeundae Beach brings together tens of thousands of spectators every year. The festival's opening ceremony is known for its outrageous environment, as magicians perform in an open space on the beach despite strong winds that can undermine their ability to show off their skills. Still, magicians don't mind performing in the open space and make the opening ceremony a sight to see.
The International Magic Competition will take place at the Busan Cultural Center and 20 magicians from around the world, including the U.S., Japan, China, Taiwan and Korea, who have honed their skills over the years, will perform.
The 20 magicians have had a long way to go to get rid of their competition to reach the final. They will present their magic based on various stories and show off juggling, music or comedy. Those who have the highest scores will continue to compete in the final on Aug. 9.

The Night Magic Gala Show, one of the highlights at the festival, will feature 10 magicians who recently received awards at the FISM World Championships of Magic.
A drama that combines traditional arts from various countries and magic will be performed, while magicians and children will perform together in the Global Kids Magic Show. The Silver Magic Show will feature experienced magicians who are 55-years-old or older and who have won various awards.
"People can enjoy magic even if they speak different languages and magic helps us dream about a new world, despite monotonous everyday life," said Kang Yeol-woo, chief of the BIMF Organizing Committee. "Koreans are traditionally very talented with their delicate hands, good at manipulation, and benefit from an Oriental aesthetic sensibility and imagination."
