In anticipation of the upcoming 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, a special winter music festival will start this year along the snow-covered slopes of Pyeongchang.
The 2016 PyeongChang Winter Music Festival is scheduled to run from Feb. 25 to 28 in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do Province. Concerts will be held at two venues, the Alpensia Resort Concert Hall and the Yongpyong Resort Grand Ballroom.
This year's lineup includes four jazz numbers and two classical concerts. The classical stage will feature a handful of young musicians who received prizes at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition.

Carel Kraayenhof and Juan Pablo Dobal, masters of the modern tango, will perform duets on the piano and the bandoneon at the 2016 PyeongChang Winter Music Festival on Feb. 27 and 28.

The David Orlowsky Trio will play modern interpretations of klezmer music on the clarinet, guitar and double bass at the 2016 PyeongChang Winter Music Festival.
On the opening night of Feb. 25, jazz vocalist Youn Sun Nah and guitarist Ulf Wakenius will engage audiences with their unique, playful style of jazzy improvisations.
From Feb. 26 to 28, a series of jazz concerts will be held at the Yongpyong Resort Grand Ballroom. Carel Kraayenhof and Juan Pablo Dobal, masters of the modern tango, will perform tango duets on the piano and the bandoneon. The David Orlowsky Trio, known for its modern twist on traditional klezmer music, will play its rhythmic tunes on the clarinet, guitar and double bass.

Young musicians from the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Competition are performing in the classical music concerts at the 2016 PyeongChang Winter Music Festival. Winner in the baritone category Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar (top left), winner in the cello category Andrei Ionut Ionita (top right), fourth prize violinist Clara-Jumi Kang (bottom left), fifth prize cellist Seung Min Kang (bottom center) and fourth prize pianist Lucas Debargue will all perform during the festival.
From Feb. 26 to 27, there will be classical music concerts held at the Alpensia Resort Concert Hall with performances by prize-winners of the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Competition.
The classical musicians will revisit some of the pieces that they performed at the competition. Their repertoires will also include solo pieces, chamber music and concertos. Some highlights will be Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, op. 19, by Lucas Debargue and Brahm's Concerto for Violin and Cello in A minor, op. 102, the "Double Concerto," performed by Clara-Jumi Kang and Andrei Ionut Ionita. The Korean Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Soo-Yeoul Choi, will join the musicians for the concertos.
