Korean Rhapsody performs its combined routine of b-boying and traditional Korean dance moves. A variety of Korean arts, including the Korean Rhapsody dance troupe, will be on the stage at Copacabana during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
This summer in Rio de Janeiro, where the roar and applause of the crowds will fill the air, some K-pop and taekwondo cheers will resound across the sandy shores of Copacabana.
A variety of Korean performances, from modernized gugak traditional music and b-boying through to taekwondo demonstrations, will take place, along with a K-pop competition, at the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. To cheer on the athletes competing in the Olympics and to promote Korean arts and performances in Central and South America, the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS) will organize a series of live performances during the Olympics in Rio from Aug. 5 to 21, announced the promotional agency.
The 'Coolta" percussion performance that uses ice blocks and the slapstick comedy team Ongals will come to the stage at the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro during the summer Olympics this year.
Along with the opening of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, events for the "Korean Culture and Tourism Week" are being prepared for Aug. 5 to 9. There will be an opening performance on Aug. 5, and a
gimbap preparation performance by Rock Chef and the ice block percussion performance "Coolta," will take place on a beach stage. KOCIS, along with Korea Tourism Organization, will be promoting tourism in South Korea as well as other cultural experience, such as calligraphy lessons and classes on traditional paper crafts. On Aug. 13, a performance to "build a wall for victory" for Team Korea will take place.
On Aug. 17, when the actual Olympic taekwondo competitions begin, the Copacabana beach stage will feature a fresh interpretation of taekwondo from the taekwondo demonstration team K-Tigers, with kicks and moves borrowed from K-pop dance moves. There will also be other K-pop shows and a slapstick comedy performance by the Ongals.
When the Olympic taekwondo trials begin on Aug. 17, the K-Tigers taekwondo demonstration troupe will present its combination of kicks and K-pop dance moves on the stage at Copacabana.
During the Olympics, other Korean cultural events will also take place in Sao Paulo. From Aug. 9 to 12, the "K-action" movie screenings will take place at the Centro Cultural Sao Paulo. Also, the Korean Cultural Center Sao Paulo will host a special Olympics exhibit displaying pictures of Team Korea at various Olympics and Korean paintings that will run until the end of the month.
