BLACKPINK has earned the most nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), attesting to the girl group's global popularity.
The awards' official website on Sept. 1 released its list of nominees this year showing BLACKPINK earning six nominations: Group of the Year, Show of the Summer, Best K-pop, Best Choreography, Best Art Direction and Best Editing.
The group's nomination for Show of the Summer, a category newly added this year, was thanks to its world tour "Born Pink" from October last year to this month in 34 world cities.
BLACKPINK in 2020 won Song of Summer for its hit "How You Like That" and Best Metaverse Performance and Best K-pop (for member Lisa's solo hit) last year.
Several other K-pop groups were also nominated for VMAs this year.
The boy band TOMORROW X TOGETHER and its hit "Sugar Ride Rush" were nominated for Group of the Year, Song of the Summer, Push Performance of the Year and Best K-pop.
The girl group FIFTY FIFTY and its track "Cupid" are up for Group of the Year, Song of the Summer and Best K-pop.
Jungkook, a member of the K-pop sensation BTS, was nominated for Song of the Summer for his solo hit "Seven" and girl group NewJeans for Group of the Year.
This year's VMAs ceremony will be held on Sept. 12 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
