The Netflix animated blockbuster "KPop Demon Hunters" is also dominating global music charts.
The soundtrack to the film has topped the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart, following the ascension of one of its songs to No. 1 on the American music magazine's Hot 100 singles rankings.
Billboard on Sept. 14 said in a ranking preview article that the soundtrack topped the Billboard 200, surpassing Sabrina Carpenter's "Man's Best Friend."
The movie's song "Golden" stayed No. 1 on the Hot 100 for four weeks from Aug. 11, thus the K-pop fantasy story has achieved the double of topping Billboard's top singles and albums charts.
This is the first time for K-pop to reign over both charts since December 2020, when BTS did it with "Life Goes On," the title track from its album "Be."
"Golden" also stayed No. 1 on the British Official Singles Chart Top 100 for six weeks, showing its dominance in the U.S. and U.K.
Billboard said, "KPop Demon Hunters is the Billboard 200's first No. 1 soundtrack in three-and-a-half years, since another animated film, Encanto, saw its companion album spend nine nonconsecutive weeks on top."
The Billboard 200 is calculated based on sales of traditional music formats like physical CDs and streaming- (SEAs) and track equivalent albums (TEAs).
The soundtrack to "KPop Demon Hunters" sold 128,000 units over the tracking period with 23,000 in physical albums (up 56% from the previous week), 103,000 in SEAs (up 1%) and 2,000 in TEAs. It also took the top spot on the Top Streaming Albums chart.
