Royal guards on the morning of March 15 reenact the ceremonies for opening and closing Sungnyemun Gate in Seoul's Jung-gu District practiced during the Joseon Dynasty to protect the fortress of Hanyang (old name for Seoul) in the process of opening and closing the gate. The Seoul Metropolitan Government has reenacted royal guard ceremonies since 2005, but this was the first time to host such rituals for the gate's opening and closing.
