A carbon map system developed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has been selected to be part of a pilot project of the Asia Development Bank (ADB) in Uzbekistan.

The ministry on June 16 announced its signing of a contract with Sundo Soft, the company in charge of the system's development. Sundo Soft was designated the agency for carrying out the ADB's support for the development of climate smart cities through urban climate action plans.

The carbon map (www.carbonmap.kr) is a data-based system that visualizes carbon emissions from buildings and transportation and the carbon absorption functions of forests. The map will be expanded into a platform supporting urban planning that reflects carbon neutrality.

Data on carbon emissions and absorption is annually updated in grid units of 1 km, 500 m and 100 m based on each building's energy use, traffic volume by road segment and forest maps.

In cooperation with the Uzbek government, the ADB is adopting integrative climate response technology such as analysis of urban carbon emissions and devising of urban climate action plans. In the process, the bank adopted the ministry's carbon map as a main technology.

The project will be held for eight months in Jizzakh region and later expanded throughout Uzbekistan and its neighboring countries.
