A competition to crown the nation's top amateur esports team will open this weekend in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

The Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA) on Aug. 14 said the finals of this year's Korea e-Sports Games from Aug. 15-16 are scheduled at Gyeongju Indoor Gymnasium.

Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by KeSPA, the annual contest seeks to promote the balanced development of regional esports and expanding the amateur player base.

A combined 1,328 players from 16 regions nationwide from July 17 to Aug. 2 competed in the regional qualifiers. Each area selected its top players for each game: one team of three to four members for "Eternal Return," one team of three players for "Brawl Stars," two players for "FC Online" and one five-member squad for "League of Legends."

The finals start on Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. The tournament will include the round of 16 for "Eternal Return"; round of 16 through quarterfinals for "Brawl Stars"; rounds of 32 and 16 for "FC Online"; round of 16 and quarterfinals for "League of Legends"; and quarterfinals through the fourth round of the losers' bracket for "Puyo Puyo eSports."

On Aug. 16, the contest will conclude with the quarterfinals through finals for "FC Online"; semifinals and finals for "Brawl Stars" and "League of Legends"; and finals for "Eternal Return" and "Puyo Puyo eSports" to determine the grand champion that earns the President's Cup.

Key games of the finals will be aired live on KeSPA's official channels on Naver Chzzk, SOOP and YouTube.
