President Park Geun-hye and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump had a telephone conversation on Nov. 10 and reaffirmed the stable alliance and defense commitments between Korea and the U.S.

According to foreign affairs authorities, U.S. President-elect Trump had a telephone conversation for about 10 minutes with President Park, and he said that, “We are with you all the way and we will not waver."

Congratulating him on his election victory, President Park told the U.S. president-elect that, “The Korea-U.S. alliance built trust while facing challenges over 60 years together, and serves as a cornerstone for peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.”

She hoped that both countries could deepen and develop the alliance in order to pursue common interests across various areas. Trump responded that he "100 percent agrees" with her. "We will be steadfast and strong with respect to working with you to protect against instability in North Korea," he said. President Park responded by saying that, “The North Korean nuclear issue is the biggest threat facing both the U.S. and Korea.”

Mentioning past provocations committed by Pyongyang during the transfers between prior U.S. administrations, President Park told Trump that Seoul and Washington should cooperate closely in order to thoroughly minimize any possibility of North Korean provocation over the next few months, and to respond to any kind of provocation in a determined manner.

Finally, during the conversation she emphasized the need to enforce strong sanctions against North Korea.
