Korea and Angola have discussed the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and ways to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Yun Byung-se and his Angolan counterpart Georges Chikoti held a meeting at the Government Complex Seoul on April 18.
“North Korea is posing a serious threat to peace and security across the whole world, not just to the Korean Peninsula, by continuously engaging in nuclear tests, ballistic missile launches and chemical terrorism,” said Minister Yun. “Korea hopes that the Angolan government will actively take part in international efforts to put pressure on North Korea, including implementing U.N. Security Council resolutions against North Korea.”
“The series of provocations by North Korea is an unacceptable threat to the international community and the Angolan government, as a responsible member of the international community, will contribute to world peace by strictly implementing the resolutions against North Korea,” answered Minister Chikoti. “The Angolan government is calling on North Korea to stop violating U.N. resolution,” he further explained.
“Korea, as a partner for mutual prosperity, hopes to contribute to Angola’s economic development,” said Minister Yun. “It's important for the Angolan government to take more of an interest in addressing trade issues between our two countries,” he said.
Finally, Minister Chikoti asked the Korean government to increase its investment in Angola. He said, “I hope our two countries will continue to explore concrete ways to bring mutually-beneficial economic development, based on the trust established through our long history of bilateral exchanges.”
