Korea will now cooperate with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to promote employment, skills, social protection and occupational safety & health in developing countries.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) signed a memorandum of understanding on Korea-ILO cooperation in order to support six countries: Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Namibia and Malawi. The agreement was signed in Geneva on March 14.
With this agreement, the Ministry of Employment and Labor will provide USD 3 million worth of support over three years, including vocational training and the introduction of new computer systems.
Korea's ambassador to Geneva, Choi Kyong-lim, said he hoped this cooperation would contribute to creating decent jobs for the ILO member states.
Korea, a member of the ILO since 1996, has been annually supporting it with about USD 1 million through the Korea-ILO Cooperation Program since 2004.
