President Moon Jae-in on Nov. 23 will hold a summit with visiting Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado Quesada on boosting bilateral relations and global issues including substantive cooperation in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era.

Cheong Wa Dae Spokesperson Park Kyung-mee on Nov. 17 in a written briefing said the Costa Rican leader from Nov. 21-24 will make a state visit to Korea at the invitation of President Moon.

As a leading eco-friendly and green country in Latin America, Costa Rica is an important cooperative partner in Korea's response to global climate change and inclusive green recovery from the pandemic, she said, adding that the summit was organized based on the strong will of cooperation between both leaders a year ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year.

This will be President Alvarado's first visit to Asia since taking office in May 2018.

In their summit, the presidents will discuss forming a cooperative partnership for a digital and green transition for future growth through partnerships in fields such as digital transition, smart farming and bio-industry for economic recovery in the post-pandemic era.

They will also cover promoting bilateral trade and investment, health and medical care, cooperation in infrastructure and expansion of developmental cooperation projects for economic and social stability in Central America. Further collaboration in promising sectors such as the space industry and hydrogen economy are also on their agenda.

The spokesperson said the summit will solidify Seoul's will to expand cooperation with Latin America as expressed earlier in the Korea-U.S. summit on May 21 and the event Korea-Central American Integration System on June 25, and through solidarity with the "small but strong country" in Central America, Korea expects to lay the foundation for stronger cooperation in the region.
