Two directors, two actors and one artist from the Korean film industry have recently become new members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

AMPAS, the supervisor of the Academy Awards, announced a list of its new 322 members for 2015 in late June this year. The list includes five Koreans: movie directors Im Kwon-taek and Bong Joon-ho; actors Song Kang-ho and Choi Min-sik; and Jin Kim, character design supervisor at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

This is the first time that the Academy has appointed any Koreans as members. The organization introduced the two best-known films of each of the newly appointed members. For director Im, AMPAS mentioned “Chi-hwa-seon” (2002) and “Chunhyang” (1999), while it introduced Bong Joon-ho with “Snowpiercer” (2013) and “Mother” (2009).

Actors Choi and Song were introduced for their roles in “Lucy” (2014) and “Old boy” (2003) and for "Snowpiercer” and “The Host” (2006), respectively.

Finally, AMPAS mentioned “Big Hero 6” (2014) and “Bolt” (2008) as two of Kim's representative works.
