Korea has agreed with China to repatriate the remains of Chinese soldiers who died during the Korean War (1950-1953).
The two sides agreed to return the remains of 68 mainland Chinese soldiers and their belongings to China in a meeting in Seoul on February 10. They decided that the ceremony to transfer the remains will be held on March 20. The remains to be repatriated were newly excavated, after Korea returned the remains of 437 soldiers to China in March 2014.
Korean and Chinese officials discuss the repatriation of the remains of Chinese soldiers.
For humanitarian reasons, the two sides agreed earlier that the remains of soldiers who died during the Korean War would be transferred every year before the Qīngmíng Festival, or Tomb Sweeping Day, a Chinese holiday in early April.
