President Park Geun-hye stressed that people and corporations should get back to normal as soon as possible during a meeting with chief secretaries at Cheong Wa Dae on June 15.

President Park requested that ministers pay meticulous attention to people, regions and fields suffering from damage due to the outbreak of MERS and that they should work to minimize the impact of the respiratory illness.

President Park said, "This is the critical moment, as the epidemic curve shows that the number of new cases occurring each day appears to be declining. The government, medical experts and individual people need to become one to overcome the disease."

She continued, saying that, "Doctors and nurses are at the forefront struggling with the disease. They are passing sleepless nights and wearing protective armor all day to fight against the invisible virus. I thank them very much for their dedication."

President Park also emphasized that the task force comprised of experts from each field put together to tackle MERS needs to play a central role in dealing with infectious diseases on a permanent basis.

Separately, Deputy Prime Minister Choi Kyung Hwan also emphasized the importance of preventing the spread of MERS. Choi visited Incheon International Airport on June 14 to check the health-related immigration control systems. He requested that people working on site there work hard to prevent the disease from spreading across other regions.
