The Reporter, an English-language Ethiopian weekly, publishes a special article, ‘A friend from the Orient,’ on its front page on May 28. The article focuses on President Park Geun-hye’s state visit to Ethiopia and Korea’s rapid economic growth over the past few decades.

On May 28, The Reporter, an English-language Ethiopian weekly, published a special article titled "A Friend from The Orient" about President Park Geun-hye’s state visit to Ethiopia and the many agreements signed across many areas of cooperation during her time in the country.

The article described President Park as "the first woman to be elected as president of South Korea, the world’s 11th most powerful woman and the most powerful woman in East Asia, as named by Forbes' list of the world’s 100 most powerful women."

Over three pages, Asrat Seyoum, chief editor at The Reporter, spotlighted Korea's rapid economic growth over the past few decades, Korea’s growth narrative, the New Community Movement, or Saemaul Undong, a series of rural and agricultural development policies based on community pressure and material inputs like cement or new seeds, as well as the leadership of President Park Chung-hee, the late father of the current President Park Geun-hye. The editor also said that Korea's economic growth "miracle" was achieved through intense government support for investment in industry. All these efforts, he said, have made it possible for Korea to become the 11th largest economy by GDP in the world, as ranked by the International Monetary Fund.

Saying that, "President Park eyes alternative markets for her manufacturing sector in Africa," the article concluded by saying that, "She officially visited Addis Ababa this week where she met with members of the business community to talk about possible textile and other investments in Ethiopia. This move would be a landmark step for her nation’s economy and perhaps an important one in advancing her father’s 60-year dream of building a strong Korea."
