Finding Folklore in Gisan's Genre Paintings

The National Folk Museum of Korea through March 1 is presenting the exhibition “Finding Folklore in Gisan's Genre Paintings” featuring depictions of Korean folk customs and their evolution over time through genre paintings by Kim Jun-geun, whose pen name was Gisan. His paintings vividly depict livelihoods, food, clothing, housing, rituals and games popular among Koreans from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries.

This exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to look at folk customs and their meanings in the present day.
