Solitude-stricken Franz Schubert (1797-1828) will be alive on the stage through his letters and music.

The “Greatest Artists’ Letters: Schubert’s Solitude” concert will bring back the great musician and his story to audiences at the Theater Yong at the National Museum of Korea on May 24.

Voice actor Yoon Dong-ki will recite the writings and letters of Schubert himself and his friends, in tune with melodies played by pianist Kim Tae-hyeong, spotlighting the life and music of one of classical music's greatest artists.

The concert will begin with the reading of a letter that announces the musician’s death to one of his past loves. The show continues with recitations of more letters that chronicle his heartbreaking parting from his loved ones, his battle with life-threatening diseases and, finally, his last breath. All the stories will be brought to life through Yoon's deep, consoling voice.

In addition to the young Schubert, in pain as he goes through love and breakups, the enthusiastic musical Schubert, who was crazy about Goethe, will be revived with the help of his legacy: his music.

Cellist Kim Min-ji and tenor Yoo Cha-hoon, too, will join the work to shed new light on the essence of Schubert's pieces. The musician's last piano piece, "Drei Klavierstücke, D.946,” will be performed, too.

“This concert will be a great chance to trace the life of the lonely, solitary man, and the range of emotions through which he lived: when he felt nervous, when he was in pain and when he felt afraid,” said an official from the Cultural Foundation of National Museum of Korea.
