The best thing about Korea is that there is always something exciting going on or a festival happening. Living here is never boring given the events scheduled throughout the year for every kind of mood.

In addition, festivals in Korea are not just limited to domestic themes; international events with great pomp and show are gaining more popularity in the country. One such festival not to miss is Holi Hai, an Indian festival of colors or love.

Holi is a jubilant occasion celebrated by Hindus every March. They say goodbye to winter by creating bonfires and throwing rainbow-hued powder to welcome spring.

This festival is now celebrated all over the world and often called the "happiest festival of the year" because of its numerous colors, laughter, dance and food.

Last year, I celebrated the first Holi festival of my life in Korea, and it was so memorable that I'm counting down the days before this year's festival opens. I initially wasn't expecting to see many foreigners there except those from India, Nepal and Pakistan but I was amazed to see more expats than South Asians. Above all, lots of Korean couples and families were there along with their kids.

Holi is one of the few events where you can talk to or even throw colors at strangers, and they will laugh when you do that, which for me is the best thing about this event. I remember making good friends from the festival, and it all began by throwing colors.

According to the festival's official website, "The color powder used is completely organic, lungs safe and biodegradable. It's made of natural ingredients like corn starch and food-grade edible colorants (Zea mays), non-toxic certified, skin and hair friendly, stain and moisture free, biodegradable, easy to wash off and free from heavy metals."

Last year's festival was held in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, alongside the sea. A host city for the event is chosen every year as a way to promote tourism in that city. For this year, organizers chose Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do Province.

Price: There is no participation fee but you can register for KRW 5,000 to get a discount on a color powder set and Holi cap here.
