In times of crisis, one thing is for sure: People are good, empathetic and want to help each other. Korea is proof of this, as exemplified by some 100 volunteers in Gyeonggi-do Province who deliver food to people under self-quarantine.

On March 13, the Gyeonggi-do Province Youth Volunteers started packing boxes of food to deliver to such people in the southern Seoul suburb of Suwon, Gyeonggi-do Province. The boxes contain instant food and regional specialties such as rice and fruit.

Volunteers said each box cost around KRW 100,000 and was paid for by the provincial government.

"The people in self-isolation must be going through a hard time. Though this (the box) isn't much, I hope it gives them some strength and that they can cheer up because we're rooting for them," said volunteer Kang Jeon-ho.

The provincial government plans to deliver 1,500-2,000 boxes to Gyeonggi-do residents as well as 15,000 boxes to people in Daegu, the epicenter of the outbreak in Korea.

The country on March 13 reported more recoveries from the coronavirus than confirmed cases for the first time since the outbreak emerged in January. The decline in the daily number of confirmed cases has raised hope that the country with the most COVID-19 cases in Asia outside of China might finally be seeing a slowdown in the outbreak.
