High-level talks between South and North Korea will be held at the Peace House of Panmunjom on Jan. 9.

Ministry of Unification spokesperson Baik Tae Hyun said in a regular press briefing on Jan. 5 that, “Today, North Korea sent a notice at 10:16 a.m. in regard to the proposal for high-level talks.”

According to the unification ministry spokesperson, the notice from the North was sent in the name of Ri Son Gwon, chairman of the North Korean Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland. In the missive, North Korea accepted South Korea’s proposal to hold high-level talks on Jan. 9 at the Peace House of Panmunjeom, talks that Seoul proposed on Jan. 2. The spokesperson added that the two sides agreed to discuss further details for the talks through the exchange of documents.

Earlier on Jan. 2, the unification ministry said it proposed to the North that they hold high-level talks at the Peace House of Panmunjeom in order to discuss North Korea’s participation in the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, as well as measures to improve the inter-Korea relationship and other issues of common interest.
