The two Koreas have agreed to hold family reunions for 100 people from each country at Geumgangsan Mountain from Aug. 20 to 26, 2018. It has been about two years and 10 months since the last family reunions in October 2015.
The two delegations held Red Cross talks at Geumgangsan Mountain in North Korea and announced a joint press release on June 22.
The number of separated family members chosen for the reunion is 100 from each country. In the case of mobility issues, one additional family member is permitted to accompany them.
The two Koreas agreed to exchange lists of potential participants through to July 3, to confirm whether the separated family members are still alive or not. They will keep receiving information until July 25, and then exchange final lists of the selected family members on Aug. 4. The venue for the reunions, the North Korean hotel complex at Geumgangsan Mountain, will be repaired, too, so that the whole procedure can be carried out without any troubles. South Korea will organize a local facilities inspection team that will be dispatched on June 27.
The two Koreas have also agreed to continue consultations on humanitarian issues, especially concerning the reunion of separated families, through the Red Cross talks and at other working-level meetings.
For this meeting, four delegates from South Korea, led by Red Cross President Park Kyung-seo, and three delegates from North Korea, headed by Pak Yong Il, the vice chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country, attended the meeting.
