The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Yoo Sang-im, hereinafter “MSIT”), the National Intelligence Service (NIS, Director Lee Jong-seok) and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, together with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and the Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA, President Cho Young-chul), held the 14th Information Security Day ceremony on Wednesday, 9 July 2025, at the Seoul Dragon City Hotel.

Information Security Day—established in 2012 after the 2009 “7.7” DDoS crisis—is a statutory observance on the second Wednesday of July to raise public awareness of cyber-threats and encourages secure online practices.

AI-driven cyber-attacks now threaten citizens’ daily lives, corporate viability and national security alike, even targeting critical infrastructure such as energy and transport. Against this backdrop, the ceremony offered all sectors of society an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of information security.

This year’s theme, “Building a Trustworthy Digital Nation in the AI Era,” underscored the need for every stakeholder to act as “One Team” and overhaul Korea’s cyber-security architecture before the AI age fully arrives.

In a congratulatory message read on his behalf by MSIT Second Vice-Minister Ryu Je-myung, President Lee Jae-myung said that close public–private cooperation can block threats in advance and minimize damage, adding that a systematic, robust security posture will enable Korea to become a top-three AI nation. He pledged to push forward with a comprehensive policy overhaul, clear benchmarks for corporate accountability, stronger cyber-resilience, enhanced support for SMEs and regional players, and expanded programmes for the security industry and workforce development.

In a video address, National Assembly Science, ICT, Broadcasting & Communications Committee Chair Choi Min-hee stressed that information security is now a core survival strategy and vowed active legislative support to enhance Korea’s security framework.

Approximately 500 attendees—including government officials, industry leaders, academic scholars, security professionals and citizens—took part in:
- Presentation of ministerial commendations for outstanding contributions to information security;
- A “Cyber-Security Relay Vision” declaration by four citizen delegates (industry, academia, the security sector and the public);
- An exhibition of exemplary security products.

The four delegates pledged to foster a culture of voluntary security investment (industry), cultivate core talent (academia), pursue next-generation security R&D (security sector) and practice cyber hygiene in daily life (citizens).

To reinforce the message, the second week of July is being observed as “Information Security Week UNITE*”. Key events include:
- July 8–10 – 10th-anniversary ceremony of the Cybersecurity Alliance for Mutual Progress (CAMP);
- July 10 – Ransomware Resilience Conference;
- July 10–11 – CODEGATE Competition;
- July 11 – Info-Sec Rookie Meet-up Day.
*UNITE stands for University, Network, Integration, Technology and Education—the daily themes of the week.

Throughout “Information Security Month” (July), the government and KISA are running hands-on public programmes that help citizens experience cybersecurity in action and adopt safe online habits. Details are available on KISA’s Facebook page (@kisa118).
