Kia Motors officially released its first sports sedan, the Stinger, on May 23.

The Stinger, fully designed in-house, brings a new category to the Korean car market: a sports sedan. The rear-wheel drive sedan carries an engine that offers 370 PS, around 365 horsepower, and 52.0 kgfm of torque. Its 0 to 100 kph time takes only 4.9 seconds.

The Kia Stinger was fully designed in-house. Its looks are based off the GT Concept that debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show.

Appealing to drivers who want the dynamic driving experience of a sports car and the comfort of a near-luxury sedan, the Stinger will also be sold in overseas markets.

“The Stinger was developed as a premium performance, rear-driving sedan with dynamic design and superior roadability,” said Lee Hyoung-Keun, vice chairman of Kia. “It’s revolutionary design and performance will start a new paradigm among high-performance premium sedans.”

Kia’s Stinger, now available to local shoppers, will be released in North America and in Europe later this year.
