Korea placed third at the 12th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO-2015).

The event this year was held in Daegu from Dec. 2 to 11, and some 249 participants from 44 different countries took place in the science competition.

Taiwan placed first and India placed second at this year's event. Russia tied with Korea for third place.

The Olympiad seeks to discover students gifted in the sciences, and promotes international friendship. Participants in the IJSO are students aged under 15, grouped into teams of up to six students. Contestants are tested on scientific theories in physics, chemistry and biology, and on their ability to carry out experiments.

The IJSO was officially launched in December 2004 in Jakarta and is in its twelfth year this year.
