Korea's men's football team advanced to the final after defeating Vietnam, which had reached the semifinals at the Asian Games for the first time, at the Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, Indonesia, on Aug. 29. Korea defeated Vietnam 3-1.
Korea led the game from the beginning as Lee Seung-woo opened the scoring in just seven minutes with his left foot. Hwang Ui-jo, assisted by the captain, Son Heung-min, struck the net again in the 28th minute.
Although the Vietnamese team tried to catch up by switching players in the 30th and 45th minutes, Team Korea secured its position with Lee scoring with his right foot again 10 minutes into the second half.
Vietnamese midfielder Tran Minh Vuong scored with a free kick 25 minutes into the second half, but the team was unable to overtake its rival.
Korea will face Japan for the gold medal in the final match on Saturday, Sept. 1. If Korea becomes the champion of this year’s Asian Games, it will be its second consecutive victory after the Asian Games 2014 in Incheon.
